Steuben Day

German-born Baron Friedrich von Steuben volunteered in General George Washington’s army in the American Revolutionary War and was crucial in training the American troops to victory against the British. Each year, a large parade in Manhattan celebrates von Steuben’s contribution to America, where participants march, dance, and play music.  GLSW families join thousands of other German-language fans in marching in or watching the parade throughout the upper east side of Manhattan every year. After the march, families can sit in Central Park where German-language restaurant vendors offer delicious delicacies from their home countries.
