First Day of School
It is a well-loved German tradition that a student’s first day of school is often celebrated by receiving a Schultüte or cone-shaped bag. The Schultüte is colorfully decorated and filled with goodies of various kinds to bring good luck and good will to the student and celebrate the start of their years of academic learning that lay ahead. Students in the younger levels enjoy decorating their own Schultüte on their first day of school and receiving various goodies. They can bring home pencils, erasers, stickers, sweet treats, etc. and remind them of the good will their new teacher and school wish for them.
